Born into a home filled with early music, Barbara Hünninger joined her family ensemble playing both the viola da gamba and baroque cello.
She began her musical training on the cello in Basel, Switzerland, before moving to Lyon, France, to study the viola da gamba under Marianne Muller at the CNSMDL. After earning her Master’s degree with highest distinction, she continued her studies in Brussels, Belgium, in Hervé Douchy’s baroque cello class, where she obtained her Master’s degree in 2022.
Barbara has performed with prominent early music ensembles, such as Musica Gloria, Les Kapsber’girls, Vox Luminis, La Cetra d’Orfeo, and Hathor Consort. She is also the co-founder of the viol ensemble Archipel Consort, which specializes in 16th- and 17th-century repertoire. In addition, she regularly organizes and teaches music courses and works as a viola da gamba teacher in Brussels and Leuven.
